The "feast" lies ahead |
Are you experiencing "post-Feast letdown" after returning home from this year's Feast of Tabernacles?
That's what some of us experience after the Feast. After experiencing a "high" through the spiritual rejuvenation and uplifting fellowship we come home to our daily routine. For many Christians that means a continuation of their walk in a certain isolation, since many of us do not live near each other and we can only have fellowship at Sabbath services.
Looking at it humanly, you can understand why some experience "post-Feast letdown". However, God wants us to bring "every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). That means we are to control our thoughts and master them. But we don't get rid of negative thoughts just by resisting them. We have to replace them with positive thoughts. It's like getting the air out of a bottle – you replace the air with liquid, and in so doing you "get rid" of the air.
A "letdown" phase in life is often related to a basic human shortcoming. We tend to forget the great goal of life that is reflected in God's plan for mankind. Let's not forget the symbolism of the Feast of Tabernacles: the wonderful world tomorrow! Let's look forward to the next feast and the time it represents. In so doing, we keep our thoughts focused on the true goal of life, the kingdom of God, instead of being distracted by the mundane affairs of everyday life.
With these thoughts I wish everyone a rewarding Sabbath!
